The University of Texas-Pan American will honor nearly 60 students at the 22nd annual Awards and Recognitions Convocation Sunday, April 22 at 3 p.m. in the Student Union Theatre.
Those students being honored include 30 recipients of "Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges"; 18 recipients of the Academic Deans' Outstanding Service Award; student leaders from the Student Government Association, University Program Board, Bacchus and Gamma; and editors of The Pan American and Panorama.
The keynote speaker is Dr. Kenneth Buckman, philosophy associate professor and recipient of the Chancellor's Outstanding Teaching Award. He will be joined by UTPA President Dr. Miguel A. Nevárez; Dr. Rodolfo Arévalo, provost/vice president for Academic Affairs; Dean of Students Elvie Pérez Davis; and the deans of each of the six colleges.
To qualify for the "Who's Who Among Students In American Universities and Colleges," juniors and seniors must have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Graduate students must hold a cumulative GPA of 3.75 or higher.
Recipients of the Academic Deans' Outstanding Service Award are selected by the dean of each college based on recommendations from the faculty.
