The University of Texas-Pan American Career Placement Services will host the spring 2001 Teacher Job Expo Thursday, April 5 from 2-7 p.m. at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
The event is open to anyone - including currently employed teachers - who wants to interview with recruiting school districts. Students are encouraged to bring their resumes and dress professionally, and CPS will arrange formal interviews.
"We're estimating about 70 school districts will participate, as well as local, state, out-of-state, nonprofit agencies and government agencies seeking persons with degrees in education or who qualify to fill teaching positions," said Velinda Reyes, CPS assistant director. "Employers also benefit by filling job vacancies and recruiting recent college graduates."
Among the school districts scheduled to attend are Alief, Alvin, Brownsville, Bryan, Conroe, Edinburg, Harlingen, Judson, Katy, La Joya, La Villa, Los Fresnos, McAllen, Nacogdoches, Pasadena, Pharr-San Juan-Alamo, Raymondville, Temple, Waco and Weslaco.
The Teacher Job Expo enables students to learn about career opportunities available at school districts across Texas. It also allows them to practice their interviewing skills with education professionals and network in their field of interest.
