Mark your calendars for the second annual Night of Lights at The University of Texas-Pan American. This fun-filled, family event will be held Friday, Dec. 1 on the eastside of the campus, off Nevárez Drive.

The Posada cast and crew include, from left, front: Frances Luna, Posada chair; Patricia Lopez, who portrays Mary; Regino Lopez, who portrays Joseph. Back row: Isaura Cisneros, Edinburg 20/20 Cultural Committee; Robert Hernandez, who portrays one of the three kings; Florea Flores of the Posada committee; angels America Hernandez and Robin Salazar; and Phyllis Hutchins, UTPA coordinator of alumni relations and Night of Lights committee member.

This year's festivities - which run from 5:30-9 p.m. - include a live Posada, a play that depicts Joseph and Mary's search for shelter the night of Christ's birth. The play is an annual tradition in many Hispanic cultures and, in the past, was held at the City Courthouse.

Other events include children's choirs, school musical groups and holiday music, food and beverage booths, children's activities, a Gingerbread House contest, a visit from Santa Claus and a spectacular fireworks extravaganza.

Admission is free and open to the public. Night of Lights is jointly sponsored by The City of Edinburg, the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation, the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and The University of Texas-Pan American.
