The University Gallery and Clark Gallery at The University of Texas-Pan American will display a trio of exhibits in November.

A new art exhibition, "Dia de los Muertos Altars," opens Nov. 2 at The University of Texas-Pan American University Gallery.

An opening reception for the exhibit, which runs through Nov. 16, is Nov. 2 from 7-9 p.m. in the University Gallery, located in the Communication Arts and Sciences Building.

Visitors are encouraged to come in costume and will vote to determine the winners of prizes made by University faculty. The altars in the exhibit are made by UTPA students and faculty.

Meanwhile, the Charles and Dorothy Clark Gallery will display "Moving On," an exhibit by three graduating fine arts students - Aida Mendoza, Ruben Gomez and Cristina Sanchez.

The exhibit opens Nov. 9 and runs through Dec. 5. An opening reception is Nov. 16 from 7-9 p.m. in the Clark Gallery.

Gomez will display figurative oil paintings and drawings, accompanied by light and sound. Mendoza will show oil works on 3-D panels, and Sanchez will have computer graphic designs from Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator.

Finally, "House and Spirit" by Maureen Triece Cole of Allen, Texas, will go on display at the University Gallery from Nov. 20 through Jan. 10. A reception with Cole is Nov. 30 from 7-9 p.m. in the University Gallery.

Cole uses mixed media - including modeling paste, newspaper, pastels and acrylics - for her 2-D and 3-D work.

Admission to all exhibitions is free, and the galleries are open Monday through Friday, except University holidays. For more information or special accommodations, please call the University Gallery at 956/381-2655 or by e-mail at galleries@panam.edu.
