Marsha Mason of McAllen, a junior in the College of Business Administration at The University of Texas-Pan American, has been selected for the first Texas Regional Bancshares, Inc. Scholarship and Internship administered by Texas State Bank's Trust Department.

Mason, who will intern full-time at Texas State Bank this summer, will also receive a $1,000 per semester scholarship, renewable through her senior year.

Glen E. Roney, chairman of the board of Texas State Bank, said that the award was the first to be sponsored by the TSB Trust Department and told the UT Pan American student that "we look forward to having you on our team."

"We believe that the most important aspect of this scholarship is the Internship Program," Roney said, "and, as such, we require our recipient to participate in the program by working in a full-time position during the summer months, and on a part-time basis throughout the junior and senior years."

The program is designed to introduce selected students to basic bank management training prior to their graduation from college.

"Through the Internship Program, the students get to look at us, and we get to look at them," Roney noted.

Mason, an honor student at UTPA, was presented her first scholarship check by the TSB chairman and Carroll Sturgis Jr., senior trust officer.

To qualify for the Texas State Bank Scholarship and Internship Program, a student must be enrolled in the UT Pan American College of Business Administration as a fulltime student, must have completed a minimum of 45 semester hours with a grade point average of at least 3.0, must be interested in a banking career and must meet the employment requirements of Texas State Bank.

Applications are available in the UTPA College of Business Administration and Office of Student Financial Assistance or by writing the Senior Trust Officer, Texas State Bank, P.O. Box 4797, McAllen, TX 78502-4797.
