EDINBURG - Robert Pulido, local Tejano singing sensation, is sponsoring a scholarship fundraising concert at 7 p.m. on May 11 at the Edinburg City Auditorium. Pulido has dedicated one concert per year to raise scholarship funds for music students attending The University of Texas-Pan American.

The scholarship fundraising concert will feature Bobby Pulido, Little Joe, and David Lee Garza.

According to Dahlia Guerra, chair for the UTPA Music Department, election of the scholarship recipients is based on musical qualifications as well as financial need.

Robert Pulido is a 1973 graduate of the UTPA Music Department. After teaching at PSJA High School for a short time, he established "Roberto Pulido y Los Clasicos."

Pulido won his first Tejano Music Award for male vocalist in 1980, and has remained very popular today. In the 1990's, Pulido continued producing albums and continued to maintain a strong popularity as "El Primo."

Pulido has been described in the Billboard Guide to Tejano and Regional Mexican Music, as a pioneer who bridged the gap between the Conjunto and Tejano musical camps in the mid 1970's.
