EDINBURG - The Rehabilitative Services Program at The University of Texas-Pan American is inviting scholarship applications from students interested in pursuing a master of science in rehabilitation counseling.

The scholarship application deadline for the fall semester is July 16th. Applicants must be fully admitted to the Rehabilitation Counseling MS program in order to be eligible.

Selected students are awarded full tuition and fees as well as $800 per month living expenses.

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage students to enter the field of rehabilitation counseling, a broad-based field that assists people with disabilities to lead independent lives, said Dr. Bruce Reed, department coordinator for the rehabilitation counseling program at UTPA.

According to Reed, graduates of the program become employed in settings such as the Texas Rehabilitation Commission, the Texas Commission for the Blind, mental health agencies, substance abuse treatment facilities, community based non-profit agencies and return-to-work programs.
