The University of Texas-Pan American's Office of Placement and Cooperative Education will host its 26th Annual Career Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 9 in the University Fieldhouse.
Graduating students are strongly encouraged to attend Career Day, said Enedelia P. Kidd, director of placement and cooperative education at UTPA. "If this is the students' last semester, they should be aware that this is a starting point for them as a way to network," Kidd said.
She said all students, not just graduating seniors, will benefit from attending Career Day.
"Students can find out about their options, including co-ops and internships," Kidd said, adding that this is a good opportunity for those who are still undecided to find out about different career paths.
She said Career Day will have "very good representation" from corporations and government agencies, particularly state and federal agencies.
"The government agencies will provide literature to inform students about who they are and what they do," Kidd said, describing the agencies' eagerness to recruit students.
Companies and agencies that have already confirmed their attendance at the event are Advanced Micro Devices, Blockbuster Inc., Bureau of Labor Statistics, Career Management Site, Coastal Banc, College Credit Card Corp., Dallas County MHMR, Diocese of Brownsville, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Federal Correctional Institution and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp.
Also, H.E.B. Grocery Co., IBP Inc., JCPenney Co., Kimball Electronics Group, McAllen Police Dept., McDonald's Corp., Merck & Company, Mutual of Omaha Insurance Companies, Pancho's Mexican Buffet and Plastic Engineered Components Inc.
Fewer school districts are expected to be represented at this year's Career Day than in the past, since there will be a separate Teacher Job Fair at UTPA in April.
