The University of Texas-Pan American Folkloric Dance Company and the UTPA Mariachi will present their final performances of "Alegria 98-99" Feb. 19 at 7 p.m., Feb. 20-21 at 2 p.m. and Feb. 26 at 7 p.m., all in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

The concerts will include authentic dances and songs from different regions and states of Mexico.

A tribute to the Mexican state of Chiapas will include "El Niño Dormido," "El Alcaraban" and "El Sapo," all performed by the Folkloric Dancers. Canciones rancheras, canciones romanticas and huapangos Veracruzanos are some of the more popular folk tunes to be presented by the UTPA Mariachi.

Also to be featured is a new suite choreographed in 1998, titled Canciones de Mi Tierra, that pays tribute to some of Mexico's oldest tunes and melodies. The suite will be performed by both the UTPA Mariachi and Folkloric Dance Company.

The Folkloric Dance Company is codirected by Francisco Muñoz and Maria Muñoz; the Mariachi is directed by Dr. Dahlia Guerra.

Ticket prices are $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Tickets are available at the Chambers of Commerce in Edinburg, Pharr, Weslaco and Harlingen, and at the Rio Grande Valley Chamber of Commerce in Weslaco.
