Dr. Farzaneh Razzaghi, assistant director for research services at the University Library, has been named interim director of the library after the resignation at the end of December of Dr. Elinor Folger Foster.
"Dr. Razzaghi has agreed to assume the position of interim director of the library while the university searches for a new director," said Dr. Rodolfo Arévalo, provost and vice president for academic affairs at UTPA. "Dr. Razzaghi is well qualified to assume the interim director position as she has been in the library field for many years.
"I am confident that she will make a contribution to the library during her tenure as interim director," he said. "She is experienced in the management and operations of library service and should be able to effectively assure that students and faculty receive good service."
Dr. Razzaghi was promoted to assistant director last year after serving as collection development librarian since 1990. During that time, she also was acting head of the circulation department for three years and acting head of the acquisition department for one year, and she has served on a number of library and university-wide committees. She also held the position of library director at the Sari Public Library in Sari, Iran, from 1975-76.
She received her PhD in Library and Information Studies and MLS in Library Science from Texas Woman's University.
Dr. Foster, who came to the university in 1993, has returned to her former position as director of library services at Pembroke State University in Pembroke, N.C., a unit of the University of North Carolina System, to be with her family.
