"In Search of Cesar Chavez: A Biographer's Journey" is the topic of the next Faculty Forum at noon Feb. 3 at the Tower Club (200 S. 10th, Suite 1700, McAllen), sponsored by The University of Texas-Pan American Alumni Association.
Dr. Paul R. Henggeler, associate professor of history, will offer a critical reexamination of Chavez's leadership of the farmworkers' movement.
He is the author of an upcoming book, After the Harvest: The Rise and Fall of Cesar Chavez, and also is the author of two books focusing on the Kennedy era, The Kennedy Persuasion: The Politics of Style Since JFK (1995) and In His Steps: Lyndon Johnson and the Kennedy Mystique (1991). The event is open to the public. Tickets are $12.50 per person and includes the soup-to-dessert buffet. Reservations can be made by calling the Alumni Association at 956/381-2500.
Other scheduled speakers in the series are Dr. Hilda Medrano, dean of the College of Education, on March 3 and Dr. Robert Edwards, professor of biology, on April 7.
