The University of Texas-Pan American's Southwest Border Nonprofit Resource Center has received a $120,000 renewal grant to continue operations for two more years.

The Southwest Border Nonprofit Resource Center which is located at the UTPA Annex 2412 S. Closner in Edinburg, is designed to provide outreach assistance to the Rio Grande Valley's nonprofit community by providing assistance in technical skills training, funding sources research, and philanthropy organizations network, said Roland Arriola, executive director of the Office Center of Operations and Community Services at UTPA.

"Since the program started, it's been enormously successful," Arriola said of the resource center. "The program has been so successful and a model for non-profit programs through out the nation."

According to Irene Sanchez-Casas, executive director of the Southwest Border Nonprofit Resource Center, the program has provided services to more than 471 Rio Grande Valley nonprofit representatives, and has published its first edition of the Rio Grande Valley 501(c)(3) organizations directory, which is being sent to foundations in an effort to bring attention to Valley nonprofit organizations and their needs.
