The University of Texas-Pan American Dance Ensemble will conduct auditions for new members of the dance troupe Monday, April 27, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in Room 133 of the Health and Physical Education Building II.
No special preparation is needed for the audition; all dance sequences will be taught during the audition session. However, those wishing to audition are required to attend an information/demonstration session prior to the audition. Sessions are scheduled for Tuesday, April 21, and Thursday April 23, from noon to 1 p.m. All sessions will be held in Room 133 of HPE II.
Individuals planning to audition should dress to dance, and bare feet are required. Auditions are expected to last about three hours. The dance studio will open at 6 p.m. for dancers who wish to come early for personal warm-up time. The auditions are open to all UT Pan American students, and those accepted into the dance company will be required to register for a two semester hours of university credit each fall and spring semester they dance with the company.
The UT Pan American Dance Ensemble is a student dance company under the direction of Laura Grabowski, lecturer in the Department of Health and Kinesiology. It is the only continuing local dance company that focuses primarily on contemporary or modern dance. The company's repertory can include modern, ballet and jazz dance forms, but training is not necessarily required in all three dance types for acceptance into the dance group. The company will begin rehearsals July 20, with a rehearsal schedule to be announced. Beginning in September, the group will rehearse regularly for eight hours a week, Mondays and Thursdays from 6 to 10 p.m.
