The University of Texas-Pan American's Student Health Services will sponsor a Health Fair open to the university community and the public April 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the University Ballroom.
The Health Fair will include exhibitors from both on- and off-campus, including an orthodontics specialist with an exhibit on braces, a martial arts instructor giving self-defense demonstrations and an area vision center with a display of frames and "wild eyes" contact lenses.
Exhibitors also will offer blood pressure check-ups and hearing screenings, and the Legacy of Life Tissue Foundation will distribute information on organ and tissue donation and will witness signatures on donor cards. According to Shanon Petty, health education coordinator for Student Health Services, 550 patients in the Valley are waiting for organ or tissue donations, while there have been only two donors in the last year.
Parking for the Health Fair will be available in Lot A-6, the visitor lot in front of the six-story Student Services Building.
For more information on the Health Fair, call Petty at 956/381-2887 or 381-2511.
