UT Pan American to host 25th Annual Career Day March 3 in Fieldhouse

More than 100 corporations, government agencies and school districts will have representatives at The University of Texas-Pan American March 3 for the university's 25th Annual Career Day from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Fieldhouse.

The number of employers confirmed to attend had reached 105 by mid-February, but according to Enedelia Kidd, placement specialist in the university's Office of Placement, Testing and Cooperative Education, the number of representatives at Career Day is expected to reach 120 to 130.

"Career Day is open to students at all levels because everybody can gain from it," Kidd said. "Anyone looking for a job to anyone doing career exploration can get something from it."

Students are urged to dress professionally and bring their resum├ęs.

Employers who have reserved a table at Career Day include school districts from throughout Texas, a wide range of government agencies, the armed forces, law enforcement agencies, health care employers, and a number of retailers and other corporations, including Blockbuster, Motorola, Radio Shack, American Airlines, Johnson Controls, Pepsi Cola, Hughes Space and Communication, Lucent Technologies, IBM, Wal-Mart, H-E-B Co., Footlocker, Allstate, McDonald's, Luby's, Lockheed Martin and Intel.

A number of universities are also sending graduate recruiters to Career Day.

One of the attractions at Career Day will be drawings for door prizes, including a $50 Target gift certificate, two $50 and one $100 Wal-Mart gift certificates, two one-day passes to Sea World, a leather portfolio, shirts, mugs and koozies.

"Most of the students attend Career Day in the morning, so we will give away the door prizes that were donated by the companies primarily in the morning," Kidd said.
