The first production of the spring semester at The University of Texas-Pan American will be The Heidi Chronicles March 4-7 in the University Theatre. Performances will be at 8 p.m. March 4-6 and at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 7. The Heidi Chronicles, a Tony award-winning drama by Wendy Wasserstein, is directed by Dr. Bill Gelber, lecturer in the Department of Communication. Sixteen actors were cast for the production. Gelber assigned many double-character parts, originally played by a single actor, to two actors. Theatre education major Letty Valladares of Los Fresnos has been cast in the lead part of Heidi Holland. "Heidi is all about changing the standards we've come to accept as a society," Valladares said. Reserved tickets are $10 and are available by calling the University Theatre Box Office at 381-3581. General admission is $5. The University Theatre's fourth and final Mainstage production of the season will be the Marivaux situation comedy, The Triumph of Love, on April 22-26. Gelber's next directorial role will be this year's Shakespeare in the Park production, The Taming of the Shrew. Auditions will be in late April.
