Darin Scott, the former senior admissions administrator at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, has joined the The University of Texas-Pan American as the new director of the Office of Student Recruitment and Orientation.

"Right now I'm trying to get the lay of the land and see what types of resources we have available," Scott said of his first days on the UT Pan American campus. "Of course, I will try to increase enrollment through our recruitment efforts, which will also increase.

"There are a lot of good selling points to this university, so I have a lot of good material to work with," he said. "For example, I'm excited that there is an athletics program here. At Corpus Christi, we were just getting one started."

Scott, who holds a master of public administration degree from TAMUCC, had served as the senior admissions administrator there since 1992. His job duties included planning and managing the university's first Student Ambassador program; hiring, training and supervising the admissions tele-recruiting team; planning and facilitating the university's largest visitation program - Preview Day - for about 700 guests per year; coordinating campus visitations; marketing the university to the community through large and small presentations; and developing marketing and recruitment materials.

Scott also received a bachelor of arts degree in political science in 1992 from Corpus Christi State University, TAMUCC's name before the merger with the Texas A&M System. His service on the Staff Advisory Council at TAMUCC from 1993 to 1997 included a year as vice president and chairmanships of two committees on the council. He also served on TAMUCC's University Safety Committee and Affirmative Action Plan Committee.

He also has experience as an account executive for EXCEL, a corporate training and development company that specializes in teaching time management, leadership and conflict resolution skills. ###
