Two art exhibits - "The Aesthetics of the Natural" by Sam Dee Thomas and "Luminous Codes Photography" - are scheduled to open in January in galleries on The University of Texas-Pan American campus.
The photography exhibit, scheduled to run Jan. 15 to Feb. 15 in the University Gallery of the Communication Arts and Sciences Building, will showcase 52 artists from around the United States. The show, curated by Jennifer Blessing of the Guggenheim Museum in New York, is sponsored by the Texas Fine Arts Association.
A reception for the photography exhibit will be held Jan. 22 beginning at 7 p.m.
University Gallery hours are 1 to 3 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays; 10:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Fridays.
Thomas' exhibit, a collection of biomorphic abstraction oil paintings, will be shown Jan. 22 to Feb. 26 in the Charles and Dorothy Clark Gallery in the Fine Arts Complex. Thomas, an artist living in Florida, is a retiree with 42 years of teaching experience in public schools in Pennsylvania and New York and at Mansfield University in northeastern Pennsylvania. He has had a private studio since 1965 and has exhibited his works in New York, Pennsylvania and Florida.
A reception will be held in the Clark Gallery Jan. 22 at 1:30 p.m., at which Thomas will lecture on his work and critique student work.
Clark Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4:50 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays; 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays; 8:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to noon on Fridays.
