The Bronc Volleyball team ended Parent's Weekend celebration on a high note as they dropped South Alabama 3-0 (15-6, 15-12, 15-4) in a Sun Belt Conference matchup tonight at the UTPA Fieldhouse. The Broncs improved their record to 12-13 overal and are now 1-7 in conference play.
Senior Christine Phillips (Long Beach, Calif.) led the Broncs with 10 kills for a .421 hitting percentage. Phillips, who has been bothered by a shoulder injury, also enjoyed a solid performance at the net, registering three blocks. UTPA's Kristine Boker (Downers Grove, Ill.) added six kills, while teammate Vivian Montemayor (New Port Richey, Fla.) led the team with nine digs. Junior setter Miya Shimada (Lakewood, Calif.) connected for 21 assists to go along with her four kills.
South Alabama was led by junior Lydia Ladd, who posted four kills and three service aces. The Jaguars fell to 1-21 on the year and 0-5 in the Sun Belt.
UTPA closes its Sun Belt Conference regular season Friday, Oct. 31, as they travel to Lamar University. Match time is 7 p.m.
