UT Pan American Press authors, illustrators to speak on works Nov. 9

Authors and illustrators published by The University of Texas-Pan American Press will comment on and sign their works at a meeting of the Friends of the Library at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, in the Ralph Schilling Room on the second floor of the University Library.

Scheduled to appear are Dr. Hubert Miller, author of Padre Miguel Hidalgo: Father of Mexican Independence; Dr. Mark Glazer, author of Flour From Another Sack and Other Proverbs, Folk Beliefs, Tales, Riddles and Recipes; Dr. Robert Lonard, author, and Dr. Ardath Egle, co-illustrator, of Guide to Grasses of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, Texas; Sandra Swenson, editor of The Charles and Dorothy Clark Collection Catalogue, which illustrates artworks donated to UT Pan American by the Clarks of McAllen; Wil Martin, illustrator for Flour From Another Sack and Sabine R. Ulibarri's SueƱos/Dreams, including the cover of the latter; and Frank Manuella, a cover artist for a number of works and a member of the Press Advisory Board.

Also scheduled to speak is Dr. Dorothy (Dorey) Schmidt, the first director and promoter of the University Press, and Dr. Patricia de la Fuente, the press' current director. Both are also professors in the Department of English.

Books by the authors and illustrators will be available for purchase, and refreshments will be served following the meeting.
