Website access via a mapped drive

You can access your website folder to upload files by mapping a network drive.

  1. Reboot your computer.
  2. Go to Start -> My Computer and look for any existing mapped drives to the web server. If there are any then right click on them and click disconnect.
  3. On the same screen go to the Tools menu on top and click Map Network Drive.Faculty Web 2
  4. Leave the drive letter as default and in the folder box type \\utpaweb\sharename$ using your share name.  Don’t forget to add the dollar sign at the end. If this does not work try  \\129.113.205.61\sharename$. Faculty Web 4
  5. Make sure the box that says Reconnect at Logon is checked (so that the mapped drive will be available to you in the My Computer screen even if you logout or reboot your computer) and then click Finish.
  6. You should now be able to see the new drive in the My Computer screen.Faculty Web 5
  7. If you are logged into the machine with your domain account (which is your UTPA username password) then you will not be asked for a username and password. But if you are not logged in with your domain account then you will be prompted to enter your credentials. In the username box type utpa\<username> and your password to connect.
