COMPENSATION AND CLASSIFICATION

Positions

     The University of Texas-Pan American employs regular employees under the following types of positions:

  • Administrative and Professional (A&P)

  • Classified

Administrative and Professional Positions

     Administrative and Professional (A&P) positions are upper level management/administrator positions. These are not subject to the guidelines or provisions of Classified positions.

Classified Position

        Classified positions are applicable to non-faculty staff. Classified positions are not applicable to University police or staff positions that are appointed at a per diem or hourly rate and work on an as needed basis.

Institutional Pay Plan

Per the Handbook of Operating Procedures (HOP) the Office of Human Resources (HR) will maintain the Institutional Pay Plan (the Pay Plan) for classified employees.  The Pay Plan contained herein includes a listing of classified positions with the job class numbers (class codes) classified job titles, corresponding pay ranges, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) exempt or non-exempt status for each classified job title, a Basic Rate Schedule, and the procedure for new classifications and reclassifications. Also included herein are other pertinent procedures and definitions.

Employment into classified positions must be to one of the titles listed in the Pay Plan - and the pay must be within the pay range for that title.  An Account Manager has the authority to approve a salary from the minimum to the mid-point of the salary range. The Divisional Vice-President must authorize a salary from the mid-point to the maximum of the salary range.
