The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a service
available to all employees of The University of Texas-Pan American. It
provides confidential, professional assistance to help employees
and members
of their households resolve problems that affect their personal lives
or job performance.
Your employer believes that the personal life of each employee is his or her
own affair. Yet the increasing pressures and changing influences of
society show that very few of us get through our adult life without some
personal stress. There is concern about the welfare of employees because
each employee is viewed as a valuable asset. With this in mind, the
University of Texas Employee Assistance programs (UTEAP) is in place to provide
solutions to problems.
How can the EAP help?
When problems influencing job performance
are resolved, it is hoped that valued employees will stay on the job.
What types of problems are handled?
Assistance is provided in areas that
affect the job, such as poor interpersonal relationships, problem drinking,
drug abuse, or personal crisis in an employee's life. UTEAP does
not provide treatment for personal or emotional problems. Instead,
EAP counselors assess the nature of the problems and provide referrals
to the appropriate resources.
Who can use the program?
All employees and dependents are eligible to use
the program. Dependents consist of family members who live with you
and/or are covered on your insurance.
What is the cost of this program?
There is no fee to visit counselors at UTEAP; all
visits to our office are free to employees and their eligible family
members. If a referral is made to an outside resource and the
client chooses to follow through, he or she is responsible for those
fees. However, our counselors know of many low cost resources
and make every effort to find helpful referrals at the most affordable
cost.
Is it confidential?
Yes. Each person's privacy is protected. No
personal or treatment information will be released to the employee's
supervisor or other individuals unless the employee requests such feedback
be provided.
How do I contact the EAP?
It is easy to contact UTEAP for information or to
make an appointment. Simply call 713-500-3327, Monday-Friday,
8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; our toll-free number is 1-800-346-3549. If
you are in the Houston area, EAP's appointment hours are Monday and Friday,
8:00a.m.-5:00 p.m., Tuesday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m.
Representatives are available
after hours and on weekends for emergencies. The interview and
assessment provide an opportunity to discuss the possible reasons for
deteriorating job performance and to assist in finding community services
and resources. The EAP office is conveniently located in the Texas
Medical Center at the University Center Tower building, 7000 Fannin,
Suite 1670.
