Latina Day Breakout Session Presenter

Wednesday, September 29, 2011

Latina Day Breakout Session Presenter Registration is now closed.

Deadline: July 31, 2011. Space is limited.

TARGET AUDIENCE
Latina Day workshops will be offered to middle school female students and their mothers.

WORKSHOP FORMAT
Participants will attend two consecutive 50-minute workshops during Latina Day. These workshops can consist of one of TWO FORMATS:

  1. a panel of 3 – 5 presenters, sharing inspirational stories and talking about opportunities within STEM careers, or
  2. a hands-on interactive session that will excite the girls and their mothers about STEM.

Because of the age of the target audience, we highly encourage use of the second format in order to truly engage the students and encourage them to pursue a career in STEM.

FOCUS
Presentations following FORMAT A should ideally include conversations with the audience on the speaker’s personal upbringing, career paths to include challenges and accomplishments, tips for success, and career opportunities with their respective organization.
Presentations following FORMAT B should provide participants with the opportunity to actively participate in hands-on activities, specifically related to STEM. The workshop presenter should structure the activity and guide the work of the participants. The use of handouts and audio-visual aids is strongly encouraged.

CAPACITY PER SESSION
30-70 people
Please note that we try to facilitate smaller sessions in order to enhance and provide the best possible hands-on learning experience for the students.
