Educator Day

Monday, October 7, 2013 CLOSED
Drawing hundreds of educators, administrators and superintendents to the UTPA campus, Educator Day offers a venue for mini-conferences, workshops, corporate keynote speakers and a variety of technical and scientific/research speakers. Attendees are given an opportunity to brush up on their professional development as well learn new teaching concepts from leading educational specialists.



Student Leadership Day

Tuesday, October 8, 2013 CLOSED
During Student Leadership Day, hundreds of middle and high school students are introduced to wide range of career opportunities in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Through rotational workshops featuring successful Hispanic scientists, astronauts, CEO’s and Nobel Prize winners, students work to develop leadership, teamwork and self-motivational skills.



Latina Day

Latina Day is an event dedicated to celebrating and promoting women in the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Hundreds of mother/daughter teams from throughout South Texas are brought together to hear the inspiring stories of prominent women of all colors succeeding in careers and job tracks once exclusive to men.



Middle School Challenge

Tuesday, Oct. 8 — Friday, Oct. 11 CLOSED
Middle school students, from private and public schools throughout the South Texas region, will visit the UTPA campus in a half-day event that will expose them to different science and math presentations and exhibits. The goal of this event is to spark students' interest in science and math, so that they become inspired in pursuing a higher education and aspire to be a part of our next generation of engineers and scientists.



Robotics Day Competition

Thursday, October 10, 2013 CLOSED
This year UTPA will be holding a Robotics Competition for 8th graders using the Lego Mindstorm 2.0. For this year's mission objective, teams will compete in three (3) obstacle courses and a video presentation. Teams must create a corporation name and develop a 5 to 30 second commercial to advertise their robot. Prizes will be given out for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places! This is a chance for students to get a first-hand learning experience with the fundamentals of engineering and commercialization.



SeaPerch Competition

Friday, October 11, 2013 CLOSED
Applicants must be in a high school and the participating students must be 9th - 12th graders. A Teacher Training will be available on September 7, 2012. Please plan on attending, as we will be handing out your SeaPerch kits at this event!
