En el marco del Festival Internacional de Libros y Arte (FESTIBA por sus siglas en inglés) presentado por la Universidad de Texas Pan American, el congresista federal Rubén Hinojosa, demócrata por Mercedes, recibió el galardón "Border Heroes Award" por sus logros y contribución a la educación en el sur de Texas.
McAllen's Perez Elementary School student Joel Garza has plenty of time to read books by one of his favorite authors - J.K. Rowling, who wrote the Harry Potter series.
Garza, who even received a letter from Rowling in response to one he sent her, isn't allowed to watch TV during the week.

La semana pasada se llevó acabo el Festival Internacional del Libro en la Universidad de Texas Panamaricana.

FESTIBA promotes literacy and reading along with celebrating the arts and humanities within South Texas. The event provides UTPA and its surrounding communities the opportunity to engage through art exhibits such as "Selected Works on Paper" by Chicano artist and many more.
The two young women leafed through many books before they stopped and found something completely unexpected: a book that included a story about one of their great-great grandfathers!
"Can you imagine how many books we've shared and lives we've changed?" said Dahlia Guerra, UTPA's chief organizer for FESTIBA 2011 and dean of the college of arts and humanities.
