The mission of the UTPA GEAR UP Project is to significantly increase the number of disadvantaged students who attend college and succeed through focused and intentional strategies that include rigorous academic instruction, mentoring, tutoring, career advisement, counseling, professional development for educators, parental involvement and other sustained support services. The UTPA GEAR UP Project serves 16 Rio Grande Valley High Schools and approximately 7,000 students.
