Virtual Private Network (VPN)

Description

The service consists of providing secure (encrypted) connection into the campus network so that UTPA resources are available that normally would only be available from on campus.

Functionality

Remote Desktop Protocol (rdp) has been identified as a vulnerability that must be addressed. A solution for this vulnerability is to block all rdp connections and have everyone use our Virtual Private Network solution, Fortigate VPN, to gain access to their office computers. The Fortigate VPN client must be installed and configured prior to using the VPN.

Hours of Availability

24x7, 365 days. System might be down during schedule maintenance periods. Scheduled maintenance is published via BroncNotes 2 days in advance.

Requests

All UTPA employees and students have access to the VPN through the use of the UTPA username and password.
