Information Technology Planning Council

The Information Technology Planning Council is appointed by the President and is charged with coordinating information technology planning in fulfillment of the IT planning requirements of the University of Texas System, State and Federal law, regulations, and policies. The ITPC is chaired by the Chief Information Officer and reports to the President. Its membersn represent every Division, the Faculty, Staff, and Students. The ITPC provides advice and recommendations for issues pertaining to technology governance at UTPA. Membership in the Council is by Presidential Appointment and lasts for as long as the member holds the designated office.

The Information Technology Planning Council

The responsibilities of the ITPC, as listed in the official charter document at http://oire.utpa.edu/committees/Information%20Technology%20Planning%20Council.pdf, are to coordinate and share information technology development and improvement plans with all areas of the institution by:

1. Evaluating the adequacy of information technology resources to support established and proposed programs and services, to accommodate projected enrollments, and institutional priorities;
2. Providing guidance in regulatory and policy matters;
3. Establishing levels and categories for project review;
4. Reviewing proposals for new information technology and major renovations of existing information technology;
5. Recommending priority order for planned information technology projects;
6. Overseeing preparation and submission of the annual update of an Information Technology Improvement Plan; and
7. Coordinating the periodic revision of a long-range comprehensive information technology development plan.
