Message from the Vice President for Information Technology

Management Responsibility

Welcome to the Division of Information Technology at The University of Texas-Pan American. Everything IT does ultimately serves our students, directly or indirectly. That's never changed. What has changed in the past year is that like many state agencies, we have seen budget and staff reductions. My commitment is that IT will continue its mission of serving UTPA's students, faculty, and staff, keeping their information secure while providing excellent customer service.

In the coming year, IT will be working on a number of projects that will expand and strengthen critical services like student advisement, smart classrooms, high-performance computation support for researchers, and the University's business systems. We'll also be researching new ways to use shared resources within the UT System to improve our disaster preparedness while lowering operating costs.

As part of our ongoing IT Governance initiative, you'll find information designed to increase transparency on how important IT decisions are made. You can learn more at www.utpa.edu/policies-forms/governance. Our student portal, My.UTPA.edu, has been a phenomenal success and in the process it has won a Best of Texas award this year. It is also available for faculty and staff. I encourage you to visit http://my.utpa.edu to get one-click access to your email, calendar, and other important resources, all on one page.

For questions or comments, please email me at cio@utpa.edu.

Sincerely,

Jeffrey Graham
