Welcome...

Welcome to the UTPA Department of Physics and Geology.  We invite you to explore what our department can offer you.  The department has undergone dramatic transformations within the last few years including a complete restructuring of our degree plans and curriculum, the addition of new faculties, and the development of successful research programs.

Our department has a firm dedication to education and providing quality one on one personal interaction.  Low student to faculty ratios in all upper divisional courses help to provide individual attention not always found in large universities.  We pay a great deal of attention to the needs of our students and try to help our students from the beginning to graduation and beyond.  Many of our students go on to pursue successful careers in science or teaching.

Our department faculties are very energetic and enjoy teaching at all levels as well as being active in their research fields.  The department is involved in a number of different disciplines in Physics and Geology.  Current research areas include computational chemistry on biophysics, fuel cell technology, material science of novel electronic, optical, and magnetic systems, laser-matter interaction, electro-optical properties of liquid crystals, photonics, Physics Education, quantum optics, nanomaterials, nuclear physics, atomic physics, geology and geophysics.

If you are interested in what we can offer you please feel free to contact us.
