Olivier David holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Oklahoma Baptist University, and a Master of Arts degree in Music with a concentration in Jazz Studies from Eastern Illinois University, where he studied under Al Horney and Paul Johnston.

 

A native of the island of Mauritius, Olivier grew up with a wide variety of musical influences from Europe, South and East Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.  He is an active performer and composer, always looking for new opportunities in any genre and with any ensemble.  His original big band composition, Gimme A Break, received the “Outstanding Original Composition” award at the 51st Annual Collegiate Jazz Festival of Notre Dame University.  He has also composed and performed original music short motion pictures, and for dance by renowned choreographer Kim Neal Nofsinger.

 

Olivier joined the music faculty at the University of Texas-Pan American in the Fall of 2009, teaching vocal coaching and applied piano.  Prior to this, he served on the summer faculty at the Interlochen Center for the Arts, and on the faculty at the Conservatoire de Musique Frédéric Chopin in Mauritius.
