Dr. Mark Joseph Ramirez is Assistant Professor of Percussion Studies at The University Texas Pan American.  He has attended The University of Texas at Austin, The University of New Mexico and The University of North Texas.  His principal mentors included Dr. Robert Schietroma, Ron Fink, Ed Soph, Scott Ney, Glen Adsit, Dr. William Wood, Jerry Junkin, and Dr. Thomas Burritt.

Prior to his appointment at UTPA, Mark served as Director of Percussion Studies at Delta State University.  Mark has also held a graduate assistantship in the wind studies department of the Doctoral program at the University of Texas. While at UT, Mark was responsible for the Texas drumline and the Longhorn Band jazz ensemble. He also served as an adjunct professor in applied percussion and music history at Huston-Tillotson College in Austin. During his studies at the University of New Mexico, Mark also served as a graduate assistant for the wind and percussion departments.

As a clinician, Mark has lectured at the University of Texas Longhorn Band marching percussion camps and the University of New Mexico day of percussion, as well as clinics in Colorado and South Texas.  Mark has also had works for percussion commissioned from Clemson University, Florida International University, University of Texas, University of New Mexico, Annapolis (Md.) High School, and Del Rio (Tx.) High School.

As an artist, Mark has performed and collaborated under the direction of some of the leading musical authorities in the field composition, including Pulitzer Prize-winning composers John Corigliano, David Del Tredici and William Bolcom and Prix de Rome recipient Kevin Puts. He has worked with other renown composers, such as Frank Proto, David Maslanka, Warren Benson, Donald Grantham, and Michael Daughtery.  He has performed with internationally acclaimed jazz and classical artists Ernie Watts, Eddie Daniels, Greg Abate, Jeff Jarvis, Dick Oats, Steve Wiest, Gordon Stout, and Phil Smith.

Mark also performed and was a member of the 9-time Drum Corps International Champions The Cadets of Bergen County. His other projects included a performance with contemporary country music artist Clay Walker; commercial recordings with Juniper Music Production for American Airlines, McDonalds, Doritos; and the recording  of a title soundtrack for the Sundance Film Festival production of 'In the Water'.

Mark is a native of Brownsville, Texas.
