Dr. Dean Canty studied trumpet with John Haynie, Norbert Carnovale and Rafael Mendez, and as a student, Canty performed seasonally with El Paso Symphony. Canty is an alumnus of the Tommy/Jimmy Dorsey Orchestras, Buddy Morrow, Les Elgart and has appeared as first trumpet with Bob Hope, Jerry Lewis, Vikki Carr, Helen O’Connell, Julio Iglesias, Myron Floren, Anita Bryant and others. Dr. Canty came to UPTA in 1967 and currently teaches Symphonic Band, Jazz Ensemble and trumpet at UTPA and performs professionally with the Dean Canty Orchestra. He also books musicians for nationally touring performers coming to The Valley, having recently booked musicians and performed with the Four Wunnerful Girls from the Lawrence Welk Show.
