Dr. Christopher Munn is Professor of Music and Director of Choral Studies at the University of Texas-Pan American where he conducts the University Choir and teaches music history, theory, conducting, and supervises secondary choral student teachers. Dr. Munn received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from the West Texas State University, the Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting with distinction from Indiana University, and the Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from the University of Oklahoma.

A master teacher, his students excel in their first years of teaching, and their passing rate on state teacher certification examinations is one of the highest in the state. As a high school choral director, he earned superior contest ratings and became known for his ability to teach difficult music, including presentations of 12-tone works at contests. His university choirs perform major works throughout the year. He has conducted the Valley Symphony Choral for many years and is a regular guest conductor of the Valley Symphony orchestra. Dr. Munn is one of a new generation of conductor/scholars.

An expert in the historical performance practices of early music, his doctoral dissertation “Medieval and Renaissance Prescriptions Regarding Text Underlay and Their Application to Music of the Fifteenth Century” won the Julius Herford Award for “Best Dissertation of the Year” in the field of choral music for 1991 from the American Choral Directors Association, an international award. Accomplished at the keyboard, Munn has appeared as a harpsichordist with Christopher Hogwood and Nigel Rogers and several early music ensembles, including the Academia Filarmonia Orchestra and the Texas Baroque Ensemble, has presented harpsichord recitals, and regularly accompanies band, choir, and orchestra students at district and state UIL solo contests. He has adjudicated numerous national competitions and is constantly active in TMEA and UIL activities with the region.
