History tells us whom we are, where our ancestors came from and what did. South Texas history spans from 8,000 years ago, through Spanish exploration, Mexican independence, and United States annexation. This history is rich and varied and claims particular consideration. Much of the history of South Texas is remembered in the oral traditions of corridos, the people's ballads.
