As a faculty member at UTPA and a professional choreographer,
Frederick W. Darsow, assistant professor in the Department of Health and
Kinesiology, constantly tries to create new steps for his dance classes.
Darsow, who is a professional choreographer from New York, is
presently teaching in EAFIT University in Medellin, Colombia for the spring
semester as an exchange /visiting faculty
from UTPA. According to Darsow, it will
be a great experience and beneficial for

STUDY ABROAD EXPERIENCE
Studying abroad and experiencing the culture and lifestyle of another country was truly breath taking for Denise M. Elizondo, a senior pre-med student at The University of Texas-Pan American.
According to Elizondo, who participated in the Italy Honors Program in Intersession 2006, is once in a lifetime event. “Words could not explain this experience,” she said.(More).
Jonatan Reyes, a junior majoring in Computer Science, participated in the Italy Honors Program in Intersession 2006.
According to Reyes, studying abroad is an amazing and exciting adventure where one experiences diversity of cultures and traditions. “Certainly, it was one of my most memorable experiences during college life,” said Reyes. “It has showed me not to keep on the same path but look beyond new opportunities and expand my perspectives and ideas.” (More).

A group of delegates from Cameroun visited The University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA) for a week (June 12-16, 2006). The purpose of their visit was to develop future possibilities in order to establish a mobile laboratory for the University of Yaounde in Cameroun. OFFICE OF INTERNATIONAL PROGRAMS HOSTS KOREAN TEACHERS
The Office of International Programs (OIP), at the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA), hosted two teachers, Youngsu Kim and Paul Shin, participating in the Fulbright American Studies Institute for Korean Secondary School Teachers of English. The Korean teachers were here from January 29 th through February 10 th, 2006. OIP had made necessary arrangements to place the teachers in a local school district to experience and observe teaching methods in American settings. They also gave cultural presentations at school to share their culture and tradition with the students and teachers. Furthermore, the teachers observed Dr. Pamela Anderson-Mejias and Dr. Yong Lang’s English as Second Language (ESL) classes at The University of Texas-Pan American. Moreover, as an essential component of their training in the U.S., the Koreans had to live with a local host family to experience the American lifestyle.
GERMAN STUDENTS FOR SHORT TERM PROGRAM
The Office of International Programs hosted a group of 11 Short-Term German Students from the one of UTPA’s partner institutions in Germany, University of Luneburg. The visiting students were here from February 26 th through March 4 th, 2006. They came here to participate in a short-term program and be involved in various academic presentations and activities throughout the week. Furthermore, the students were hosted by local families to experience the American way of life. The goal was to have the German students experience the university and community environment here, as well as for UTPA students to have the same experience when they study abroad in Germany.
