The Office of International Programs supports and enhances the University’s mission to serve “the higher education needs of a rapidly growing, international and multicultural population in the South Texas Region,” thus promoting international and multicultural awareness on campus and in the community through international programs such as student experiences abroad, faculty teaching abroad, academic exchanges and international events, presentations and conferences. The Office also facilitates and encourages campus-wide efforts to develop international programs in the areas of research, publications, continuing education, faculty development and community outreach. It supports international initiatives among student groups, faculty and agencies in the Texas-Mexico border community. In addition, the Office provides assistance in setting up linkages with universities in Mexico and other countries in the world, sponsoring multi-cultural and international research and forming affiliations between international groups and the community.
Vision Statement
The Office of International Programs will strengthen its involvement in internationalizing the learning environment on campus and in the community by becoming an established University component in international education. This will be accomplished by the following: providing high quality international programs to diverse student and faculty populations, extending study and teaching abroad programs to more geographic destinations, expanding student and faculty exchange programs in terms of academic disciplines and areas, pursuing more affiliations with international institutions, and bridging international programs towards community development and outreach.
