FACULTY EXCHANGE PROGRAMS:


Dr. Victor Alvarado (Department of Educational Psychology)
Participated in a Faculty Exchange/Visiting Program during Spring 2005 with the University of Wuhan in China. Dr. Alvarado taught several sessions in Educational Psychology.

Dr. Pamela Anderson Mejias (Department of English)
Participated in a Faculty Exchange/Visiting Program with Ocean University of China in Qingdao, China during the Fall Semester 2006 and Spring Semester 2007. Dr. Pamela Anderson Mejias taught graduate courses in English Language and Applied Linguistics.

Dr. Hugo Mejias (Department of Modern Languages & Literature)
Participated in a Faculty Exchange/Visiting Program with Ocean University of China in Qingdao, China during the Fall Semester 2006 and Spring Semester 2007. Dr. Hugo Mejias taught Spanish courses and assisted the University to develop the Spanish Program.

Dr. Peter Kranz (Department of Educational Psychology)
Participated in a Faculty Exchange/Visiting Program with the University of Danang, Vietnam during Wintersession 2006. Dr. Kranz taught English Language and seminar courses in Educational Psychology topics such as play therapy and cultural diversity. Dr. Peter Kranz has participated other Faculty Exchange/Visiting Programs with Ocean University of China in 2004 and during the Summer 2007, he participated in Universidad de Talca, Chile. He taught sessions with different topics in Educational Psychology for the Department of Psychology at both institutions.

Professor Fred Darsow (Department of Health & Kineseology)
Participated in a Faculty Exchange/Visiting Program with EAFIT University in Medellin Colombia during the Spring Semester 2007. Professor Darsow taught Dance courses and participated in other activities in order to explore the ethnic dances of the area.

Dr. Christoffer Miller (Department of History & Philosophy)
Participated in a Fulbright and a Faculty Exchange/Visiting Program with Moscow State University during the Spring Semester 2007. Dr. Miller taught students from both UTPA and Moscow State University students via WebCT (web based).

Professor Deborah Cole (Department of English)
Will participate in a Fulbright and Faculty Exchange/Visiting Program with Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia during Fall Semester 2007 and Spring Semester 2008. She will be conducting research in public discourse on diversity in Bahasa Indonesia. Dr. Cole will also be teaching graduate courses in Media Studies.

"E-commerce and M-commerce in China"
Examine various e-commerce and m-commerce issues in China related to tourism and travel, the m-commerce value chain, organizational and individual adoptions of instant messaging, mobile text messaging, mobile banking, and mobile-service subscription.

"Building Binational Bridges: Connecting Cultures through Nursing Education"

A theory article which looks at the various identities in India and their constuction through media, economics, politics, and popular culture.

Dr. Héctor Luis Díaz (College of Health Sciences & Human Services)
"Community Capacity, Economic Development and Democratization: The Cases of Peru, Bolivia, Nicaragua and Honduras"
A multinational quantitative and qualitative research study conducted during 2005 and 2006 in the countries of Bolivia, Peru, Honduras and Nicaragua.  It explored the relationship between indicators of community capacity, indicators of economic progress, and the development of democratic values and behaviors among communities that had received socio-economic development services and communities that had not.

Dr. Jerwen Jou (Psychology and Anthropology)
“Effects of Stimulus Activation Levels on the Perceptual Interference effect in Chinese Words.”
Collaborated with a faculty member at the School of Psychology, Southwest University in Beibei, Chongqing, China, Dr. Quanhong Wang.

Dr. John Bokina (Political Science)
"Images of Spartacus"
Examines the portrayals of Spartacus in different historical eras, different genres, and different countries.

Dr. John Darcy (Accounting and Business Law)
Several Books and Articles published, including:
"Japan Master Tax Guide" - The Master Tax Guide series was began in 1913 with the U.S. volume.  This is the volume of the CCH Master Tax Guide series that provides comprehensive coverage of Japanese taxation in the English language.

American Sociological Association ’s Travel Award Grant (SES-0548370) supported by the National Science
oundation (NSF) to present a paper in Durban, South Africa

Article: "The Educational Impact of a Study Abroad Program in Mexico on Social Work Students"
Research conducted with 21 students who studied social work in the state of Puebla, Mexico.

Dr. Salma Ghanem (Communication)
"A Comparative Study of Newspaper Coverage of the War in Iraq"
Compares the coverage of the war before and during the invasion to determine if ideology affects newspaper coverage. Using framing as the ideological underpinnings, this study is discovering that indeed ideology does play a difference.

Dr. Sandra Hansmann (Rehabilitative Services)
Public Environments for Individuals who are Blind or have Visual Impairments in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
This project surveyed public environmental and transportation accommodations for people with visual impairments in Hong Kong.
