How to apply for individual study abroad programs

All interested students need to fulfill the following requirements to apply for the Study Abroad Programs:  

  1. Official Admission at UTPA
  2. No holds on records (e.g. Payments & Collections, TSI, Police Department, etc.)
  3. For Undergraduate students:
    • GPA minimum of 2.0*
    • Minimum of 30 credit hours*
    • *This may be reconsidered by meeting other requirements
  4. For graduate students:
    • GPA Minimum of 3.0

Follow the Next Steps!!!

  1. Fill out the STUDY ABROAD APPLICATION FORM and submit the following information along with your application to Office of International Programs (OIP) at CAS 125.
    • Official Transcript
    • One Letter of Recommendation from a Professor
    • Letter of Intent
    • Two Passport Sized Pictures
    • Proof of Admission at UTPA
  2. Meet with your faculty advisor. The purpose of this meeting is for the Faculty Advisor to notify you about the courses that you can or can not take while studying abroad (Don’t forget to take a degree plan with you). Discuss and decide with your Faculty Advisors the courses you need to take related to your degree plan.
  3. Upon recommendation and advice from your faculty advisor, choose 8 possible courses from UTPA degree plan (including course title name, number and description). Go to the website of the international institution where you plan to study; download and copy equivalent course descriptions. Fill out the pre-advisement form (enclosed) and have the faculty advisor sign it.
  4. Meet with a Study Abroad Program Advisor; submit signed pre-advisement form with enclosed course descriptions. Fill out enrollment form at the OIP and make your deposit of $150.00 at Payments and Collections.
  5. Submit copies of your receipts to the OIP along with the completed Enrollment Form.
  6. Fill out the following forms:
      • PERSONAL INFORMATION FORM
      • LIABILITY WAIVER
      • RELEASE AND INDEMNIFICATION FORM
      • ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF PARTICIPATION FORM
  7. Bring a copy of your PASSPORT.
  8. Ensure to visit the Student Health Services, 30 days prior to departure, for advise on health and other requirements for the country you’re going to.
  9. Make your PAYMENTS on time.
  10. Ensure to make full payment 30 days before departure.
  11. Get ready for your trip; pack your bags, take sufficient money/credit cards with you and
