in Special Education
Requirements
for Admission:
The master’s degree in Special Education provide the option of a 39-hour non-thesis program. This program has 3 tracks (a) low-incidence, (b) high-incidence, or (c) principalship. The choice of courses in the major and minor fields, as well as the nature of the supporting work, will be determined through consultation between the student and the advisor.
The low-incidence track is intended for students interested in working with children with severe and profound disabilities. Graduates may work in traditional school settings or hospital settings.
The high-incidence track is for students that are interested in working with students in middle and high school in an inclusion classroom as a co-teacher.
The principalship track is for students interested in pursuing careers as an assistant principal, principal or director of special education.
A student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or greater.

The Principalship has an additional requirement of classes and a 2-semester internship. The additional courses and internship will be completed after the Special Education Graduate Degree is conferred and with consultation of a faculty advisor from the Educational Leadership Department.
