Educational Diagnostician Program

Master of Education Degree in Educational Diagnostician and Educational Diagnostician Certification.

The purpose of the 39-hour Master of Education degree in Educational Diagnostician is to prepare Educational Diagnosticians to provide individuals with disabilities quality educational services in the Rio Grande Valley and throughout Texas.

Responsibilities to Children:

  1. Conduct and coordinate initial evaluations of students referred for evaluation to determine eligibility for special education services.

  2. Conduct full individual evaluations of language, sociological, and behavioral factors; assistive technology needs; intelligence; adaptive behavior; educational achievement; and career interest and aptitude. Compose a written report that addresses each aspect affecting a child's education in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

  3. Provide evaluation data for teaching strategies, methods, materials, and mastery level.

  4. Consult with teachers to assist in the development, review, and revision of the Individual Education Program (IEP) including classroom modifications and/or accommodations.

  5. Assure that re-evaluations are completed every three years.

Responsibilities to School Districts:

  1. Maintain knowledge of federal and state laws, rules, and regulations that affect students with disabilities.

  2. Continue professional growth and development as evaluation specialist.

  3. Receive referral information from general education regarding a child with a suspected disability who may need special education intervention.
