after Master's degree now requires a separate application upon
completion of the M.Ed. (See
Licensure track.)
1. A student is required to be
admitted to
graduate study by the University under a probationary or clear status
(see Catalog for Admission requirements to the University), at which
point the student must submit an application for admission
to the Master of Education degree program in Guidance and Counseling.
During
the Spring and Fall semesters, approximately sixty applicants are
accepted into the Guidance and Counseling Program. If you have
applied to the Counseling Program, but have not been accepted, you may
take EPSY 6300 and 6370 (or 6350), but may not enroll
in core curriculum courses (See
Degree Requirements and Degree Programs).

2. A student is admitted into the Counseling Program, and may begin
taking core curriculum courses, beginning with 6361 and/or 6362.
3. Students who are denied admission for any reason may appeal to the
Counselor Education faculty in the following manner:
a. File a letter of appeal
b. Provide an essay that details significant life
events, with an
emphasis on achievements and responsibilities that would indicate an
ability to undertake graduate work with a probability for success in
the field of counseling.
c. Complete an interview by a committee of Counselor
Education faculty.
ADDITIONAL
PROGRAM GUIDELINES
1. Students must meet University Requirements prior to enrolling a
second time.
2. Courses must be taken in the specified sequence, as outlined on the Course Sequencing Page. Some courses may
be taken concurrently and some
courses may be prerequisites for other courses. Consult with your
advisor.
3. Students are required to take the Oral Examination during the
semester in which they are enrolled in EPSY 6364-Methods and Techniques
in Counseling and to take the Written Comprehensive Examination
during the semester in which they are enrolled in EPSY 6368-Counseling
Practicum I.
