These dissertation studies involved nested/hierarchical analysis.

Forty semester graduate hours of course work in measurement, experimental design, and statistical analysis were completed during doctoral training.
The Quantitative method courses have been grouped into three areas:

I. Measurement Courses
1. Psychological Testing (PSY 131) (3 hrs) (Drake University), Dr. Morris, Grade A, textbooks: Psychometric Methods by Guilford and Essentials of Psychological Testing by Cronbach. Topics covered: measurement theory, psychophysics, scaling techniques and statistical methods used in test development.
2. Tests and Measurements (Psy 447) (4 hrs) Dr. Rice, Grade A, textbook: Psychological Testing by Anastasi. Topics covered: Norms, reliability, validity, standardization procedures, moderator variables, suppressor variables, and convergent and discriminant validation by the multitrait-multimethod trait.
3. Advanced Tests and Measurement (Psy 630) (3 hrs), Dr. Cox, Grade A, textbooks: Educational Measurement and Evaluation by Nunnally and Readings in Psychological Tests and Measurements by Barnette. Topics covered: basic statistical concepts used in test interpretation, regression and correlation techniques in test construction.
4. Seminar in Quantitative Methods (Psy 734) (3 hrs), Dr. Osburn, Grade A, textbook: Statistical Theories of Mental Test Scores by Lord and Novick. Topics covered: True score theories, derivation and relationship among reliability estimates, deriving error estimates, deriving error estimates through ANOVA, and latent trait models.
5. Seminar in Educational Psychology (Test Construction) (Psy 761) (3 hrs), Dr. Cox, Grade A, textbooks: reference list of books on test construction. Topics covered: empirically going through the development of a test through individual research projects (emphasis on item development and item analysis).
II. Research Design and Methodology Courses
1. Experimental Design (Psy 668) (3 hrs), Dr. Sheer, Grade A, textbooks: Statistical Principles in Experimental Design by Winer and Nonparametric Statistics by Siegel. Topics covered: nonparametric designs for: one-sample case, related samples, independent samples, and parametric designs: completely randomized, replicated, Type III; Latin and Greco-Latin Squares and Analysis of Covariance.
2. Seminar in General Psychology (Psy 672) (research Methodology and Design) (3 hrs), Dr. Rozelle, Grade A, textbooks: Experimental and Quasi-Experimental Designs for Research by D.T. Campbell and Stanley, Psychological Research by Underwood, Unobtrusive Measures: Non-reactive Research in the Social Sciences by Webb, Campbell, Schwartz, Sechrest. Topics covered: Pre-experimental Designs, True Experimental Designs, True Experimental Designs, Quasi-Experimental Designs, designs used in naturalistic settings, cross-lagged panel correlation techniques, convergent and discriminant validation by the multitrait-multi-method matrix, sources of invalidity, internal and external validity and plausible rival hypotheses in design.
III. Statistical Analysis Courses
1. Psychology Practicum (Psy 775) 93 hrs), Dr. Frankmann, Grade A, (no textbooks). Topics covered: set theory, probability theory, empirical derivation of expected values, advantages of 5 < N < 25 producing results that are functionally as well as statistically significant, indexes of the strength of association, sampling theory.
2. Introduction to Statistical Analysis (FED 736) (3 hrs), Dr. McClintock, Grade A, textbook: Statistical Analysis in Psychology and Education by Ferguson. Topics covered: measures of central tendency and dispersion, correlation and regression, error estimates, hypothesis testing, power, Type I and II errors, and t distributions.
3. Intermediate Statistical Analysis (FED 739) (3hrs), Dr. McClintock, Grade A, textbook: Statistical Analysis in Psychology and Education by Ferguson. Topics tests for: normality, homogeneity of variance randomness, one-way and two-way ANOVA, various bivariate measures of association: r, o, rpbi, rbi, r, etc., coefficient of concordance, multiple correlation and regression, partialing in correlational research, hypothesis testing in correlational research,hypothesis testing in correlational research, noncentral t-tests, analysis of covariance, curvilinear regression and correlation.
4. Intermediate Statistics (Psy 633) (3 hrs), Dr. Downie, Grade A, Statistics for Psychologists by Hays. Topics covered: partitioning of chi square and Fisher's exact test, and relationship among distributions.
5. Advanced Statistical Analysis (FED 769) (3 hrs). Dr. McClintock Grade A, textbook: Statistical Principles in Experimental Design by Winer, Statistical Procedures and Their Mathematical Bases by Peters and Van Voorhis, The Design and Analysis of Scientific Experiments by Peng, Biometrika articles. Topics covered: methods and partitioning, nested designs, nested and crossed designs, fixed, random, and mixed models, randomized-blocks, lattice and split-plot designs, response surface designs, comparisons among treatment means, orthogonal comparisons, trend analysis and curve fittings, tests of normality: Kolmogorov-Smirnov, and Shapiro-Wilks W-test.
6. Biometrics (BIO 661) (3 hrs), Dr. Bryant, Grade B, textbooks: Biometry by Sokal and Rohlf and selected articles from Biometrika. Topics covered: The relationship among the binomial, poission, normal, t, and F distributions; and distributions used in ecological research such as epulsed, poission and contagious;and Model I, Model II and Mixed Model ANOVA designs and their appropriate E (MS) and error terms; a priori comparisons: least significant difference and Scheffe methods; a posteriori comparisons: least significant range, Tukey's w-procedure, honestly significant difference, simultaneous tests procedure difference, Student-Newman-Keuls; Nested ANOVA: Least squares analysis for unequal class sizes, multivariate ANOVA, discriminant functions and probit analysis, distribution free and randomness methods; tests for: Multiplicative effects and additive effects in design models (Tukey); Rankits test for normality, and cluster analysis.
