Dr. Veronica Castro
Assistant Professor, Counselor Education
Area of Expertise and Research Agenda
School counseling is my area of expertise. However, my research
agenda encompasses not only school counseling guidance programs but
also academic resiliency in students.
My teaching philosophy
My teaching philosophy is comprised of cognitive, humanistic and social
orientations to learning. I believe that students in a master’s
level program should develop the capacity and skills to learn better,
become self-actualized and autonomous, as well as participate in and
utilize community resources. Therefore, my role as an educator is
to structure and organize learning activities, facilitate the
development of the student as a whole, and work towards bridging the
public school community and school counselor pedagogy. Other
objectives I have as an educator include teaching fundamental concepts
and fostering critical thinking.
What I like about working at UTPA and our department
What I most enjoy about working at UTPA is the student’s enthusiasm and
desire to learn, faculty support and collegiality.
