Students With A Purpose
Students With A Purpose (SWAP) is a component of the Community Service Connection that not only provides students with the opportunity of helping in and learning from their local community, but also allows students to form a service network with students from a different college or university. SWAP consists of two major alternative breaks, one done in the spring and the other done either in the winter. During the first break, one university hosts a visiting university, providing the community service projects and the opportunities for experiential learning in their local community. The 'SWAP' occurs during the second break when the visiting university then becomes the host and provides a community service learning experience in their local community. The opportunity for students to experience social issues in local and distant communities will help them become more aware of social issues affecting this country in hopes that they grow as active members of their communities throughout their lives.
The goals of SWAP are to:
- Gain firsthand knowledge on the growing issues affecting the local and distant community.

- Provide a broad look at social issues in local and distant communities.
- Increase the leadership and citizenship skills in each student.
- Network with students from different universities who share the same concern and willingness to work towards the social issues affecting our communities.
- Take the knowledge gained in the local communities and use it to address issues in other communities, and visa versa.
- Provide an opportunity to students that will result in a growth as individuals.
