Communities in Schools (CIS), is a non-profit stay-in-school – Drop-out prevention program.  We are in 6 school districts (McAllen, Edinburg, Mercedes, Edcouch-Elsa, La Joya, and Valley View).  We provide tutoring, counseling, and refer our students and parents to outside agencies for their needs.  The population that we work with are the at-risk students in these school districts.

The NFWSC builds and preserves affordable housing for Latino and underserved communities throughout the southwest (TX, NM, AZ and CA). The NFWSC-community services division is establishing on-site community centers, ‘Si Se Puede! Learning Center’, at each property for the youth and teens who reside on our affordable housing property.  The Learning center’s primary focus is to provide educational services through an after-school and summer program.

The Salvation Army is the only emergency shelter in Hidalgo County providing 3 meals a day to shelter residents!  We also provide assistance with food clothing, furniture, rent, mortgage and utility assistance to persons experiencing financial emergencies.  Our disaster team also serves hot meals and provides other services during a disaster.
