Applying to the Reading M.Ed. Program

Successful applicants to this program will have a bachelor’s degree with at least 15 undergraduate credit hours in Reading or a related field. They will also be certified teachers with at least two years of teaching experience.

Prospective students must complete the online application http://apply.embark.com/GRAD/UTPA, which includes submitting a written statement describing how this program will help the applicant meet their professional goals, three letters of recommendation from people who know the applicant professionally, and GRE scores.

Prospective students must also submit the following materials to the program coordinator:
  • A Teacher Service Record indicating at least two years of teaching experience
  • Official academic transcripts
  • Copies of applicable Texas Educator Certificates
The application is not complete until all materials have been received. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

Application Deadlines

All application materials (including GRE scores) must be submitted to the program coordinator by the following deadlines:

the fall semester     July 15
the spring semester     November 15
the summer sessions     April 15

Once the application is complete the program coordinator and Reading faculty will review the files and make admission decisions. Prospective students will be informed of the admission decisions as soon as possible after the application deadline has passed.
