Once a student has satisfactorily completed the required
coursework he/she must contact the program coordinator. The
coordinator will inform the Office of Teacher Certification and
Admission Services that the student is eligible to take the MRT
certification exam. The student then needs to register for and take
the exam.
A student who earns a Reading Master's degree from UTPA
and becomes a certified Reading Specialist does not need to take the
MRT exam to become a MRT.
Certification
Once a student has passed the MRT certification exam (or earned a
Reading Master's degree and passed the Reading Specialist TExES) the
student is responsible for pursuing certification through the Office
of Teacher Certification and Admission Services (EDCC 1.302).
