Master Reading Teacher Certificate
Certification Plan

Students should become familiar with Degree Works, which can be accessed through ASSIST. Degree Works is an advising tool that will help students keep track of their progress

The Master Reading Teacher Certificate program consists of six courses.

  • READ 6308 Theoretical Foundations of Reading and Literacy
  • READ 6314 Literacy Development and Language Study
  • READ 6329 Literacy Assessment and Instructional Decision-Making
  • READ 6323 Teaching Struggling Readers
  • READ 6356 Internship I
  • READ 6357 Internship II

Changes to the Certification Plan

Students should plan on taking the courses above to complete program requirements. However, in rare instances changes may be made to the certification plan. Any deviations from the certification plan must be approved at three levels. Students must complete a Petition to Change Degree Plan form and give it to the program coordinator for processing. The certification plan change is NOT approved until the petition has been signed by the program coordinator, the department chair and the College of Education Dean. Once the change is approved the form will be sent to the Office of the Registrar to be entered into Degree Works.
